International Design Olympiad as a journey is a manifestation of learning’s, articulation of ideas, expression of feelings and creative visualisation.

How does it work?

Round 1: Is conducted at the respective school of the participating student. It is a paper-based format to identify divergent and visual thinking, observation skills and many other design-related attributes. Students showing the right aptitude get selected as Merit holders and they will be informed about the subsequent steps. Merit holders are required to write a Letter of Motivation /Essay / Statement of Purpose/ based on the grade they are in, and they are informed via email about their respective subject matter. They also need to provide a paper based portfolio which is an expression of who you are and what resonates with you. Both Letter of Motivation as well as Portfolio are submitted online which are further evaluated and subsequently one gets qualified for Round 2.

Round 2: Happens at regional level. The regions are divided based on the school clusters and one of the schools in the cluster becomes the host of that region. In this round students execute design projects, both at an individual, as well as at a team level. At the team level, students work with unknown team members, which help foster collaboration, role responsibilities (like design manager), time and resource management, peer to peer feedback, material handling, verbal articulation, creative and thinking skills. Students are evaluated on an individual basis during this process. Merit holders are subsequently selected amongst these students and they are given briefs to submit design papers on given topics. Jury decides which students will qualify for Round 3.

Round 3: Is an intense Design round that involves a pertinent social issue. Students have to make presentations and mock working models to put forth their design solutions. This round will be conducted in Pune, Maharashtra, India. Winners in each grade will be given Certificates and prizes at the Awards Ceremony. Parents are advised to come for this event.
